No. 217: Tobey Hospital, Wareham, MA
THE PROBLEM
Steam was venting from receiver tank in pharmacy area. This was causing safety issues and wasted energy.
THE SOLUTION

Conservation Solutions Corporation tested traps in the zones that were returning steam to the venting tank. Numerous steam traps were failed in the open position. Tobey Hospital in conjunction with Conservation Solutions replaced 110 bucket, float & thermostatic and thermostatic traps with the SteamLoc® Orifice Steam Traps. This eliminated the venting of steam. After seeing the results of the SteamLoc® traps in this zone the hospital completed the rest of the traps the following year. Over 300 traps were changed. Including equipment with varying loads such as Heat Exchangers, Air Handlers, Radiators and Domestic Hot Water Heaters.

THE RESULTS

Steam venting from receiver tanks was eliminated. Make-up water to the boiler was significantly reduced. Chemical costs reduced due to less make-up water. Energy costs were reduced due to tight steam system.
